A Husband’s Perspective: An Upside Down World…

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!”

Isaiah 5:20 ESV

“But understand this that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.”

2 Timothy 3:1-17 ESV

“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions.”

2 Timothy 4:3 ESV

It has gotten to the point in this world, that what is defined in the Holy Bible of what is good and evil is being turned on its head.  The news headlines scream of what just 25 years ago would have been unthinkable, unimaginable.  Case in point, the now ongoing instructor at Wheaton College who’s claim to fame is her statement that both Christians and Muslims worship the same God.  In other words for those of you keeping score, in essence, Jesus and Allah are one and the same.  Though to the ignorant and uninformed “Christians” and “Muslims” who consider themselves peace loving and tolerant people, this same God belief invokes warm and fuzzy thoughts, everyone on a hill holding a candle singing homage to Coca Cola.  To those who know and believe the Holy Bible, this is the furthest thing from the truth.  Another thing that is mind numbing is the fact that there are students that are backing her up.  Students enrolled in a Christian school, where you would like to think people who choose to go to a Christian school as an adult, would be more grounded in the fundamentals of the Christian faith.  So it’s OK to say both Gods are the same in a Christian school, but what would happen if you mirrored that message and told Muslim believers in a school, or a mosque, that Jesus was that God.  Go ahead and try that and let me know how it works out for you.  Technically in the world of Islam you would have committed the unforgivable Sin of Shirk.  Shirk is the sin of practicing idolatry or polytheism, i.e. the deification or worship of anyone or anything other than the singular God i.e. Allah. Literally, it means ascribing or the establishment of “partners” placed beside God.  Within Islam, shirk is an unforgivable crime if it remains unpardoned before death: Allah may forgive any sin if one dies in that state except for committing shirk.  In other words, claim that Jesus is God and/or belief in the Holy Trinity and sit back and wait for the stones to fly.

A point I am trying to bring across is that we are now expected to tolerate everything in this world, and to embrace the differences.  After all, we all worship the same God, unless you don’t worship or believe in a god, and that’s OK too, because in our own personal world if you don’t believe in a god, then that’s your right. If you don’t see or believe in something it can’t be real right?

Even more disturbing is the fact that the instructor backs up her claim of same God from the leader of the Holy Catholic Church, the Pope himself.  Since Pope Francis has come into the spotlight, I have found him personally a refreshing cool breeze to the papacy, as I did Pope John Paul II.  His belief in being a modest servant to the human race is a testament, and as Christ like as anyone could hope.  But if it is true he made the claim that we worship the same God, and was not taken out of context, then Pope Francis is for the sake of the “co-exist” movement trying to paint the world with that fuzzy, warm paintbrush.  However, in an effort to appease the politically correct world; he is influencing less educated Christians to share such beliefs, which in turn could actually lead people down the path away from Christ.  Either circumventing a saved believer from bearing fruit in the future, or even worse, keeping a person from believing the Truth and coming to faith in the one and only true God of the Universe.

Defend the true King of the Universe on social media, and watch what happens.  If you enjoy being called a bigot, racist, intolerant, red neck, and maybe a few four letter words, say it in a place where there are people and they will jump on you like a seagull on a French fry in a McDonald’s parking lot.  “How dare a person say that Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to God, the only way to merit Heaven for eternity?”  “How can a Christian be so closed minded to believe a fairy tale like that?! “ “How dare you think that you know the “truth” and all other religions are wrong?” “You are so old fashioned, no one believes that anymore”. The same voice that cries out those type of statements, is the same voice that was behind the crowd that cried out to Pilate, “Crucify Him!”   Misinformed Christians as well as non-believers, driven by the god of this world in the background, like a popcorn munching, flag waving super fan in a stadium taking in every quarter of the game we call life.

More and more, whether on social media, at the movies, books, magazines, network news, or any other media, this type of thinking has become “in” and the way to “co-exist”.  The only thing that is no longer tolerated in today’s society, is Jesus Christ.  “Abortion? Sure, it’s just a fetus.  It’s not a baby until the head comes out.”  Unless of course an expectant mother is killed along with what magically now turns into a “baby”.   Same sex marriage?  “Why not, it doesn’t hurt anything.”  Forgive me for using the expression, but for a moment let me play the devil’s advocate.

Though I am not a proponent of same sex marriage, let me ask you Christians something.  Is it worse for a child to be raised by a same sex couple than to be raised in a so called Christian home where the father has skipped town and a mother is left to raise a child alone, more than likely in some degree of poverty, on government assistance, or working and creating latch key children, left to fend for themselves?

My point is to remember what Jesus told us  in taking the plank out of our eyes before we attempt to remove a small piece of sawdust from someone else’s eye.  The moral decay of this country does not all sit on the shoulders of the “unsaved” or the “pagans”.  When self-claimed Christians are doing the same thing as the rest of the world, why would anyone expect things to ever get better??!! Non-believers and pagans are faithfully executing their “job description” on a day to day basis.  In fact, they are quite good and consistent at it!  You, as one that calls themselves a Christian, how does your latest job review pan out? There was an outcry when same sex marriage was legalized.  I assume something similar took place in 1973 when Roe V. Wade came to fruition.  Where the outcry from Christians as each state was, one by one, falling to the evils of no fault marriage decrees?  How much damage has occurred in the structure of the nuclear family, since Uncle Sam made it easier to part ways with your spouse?  How much of that has led to children being raised in poverty, and then to an increasing crime rate fueling the moral decay of this great country?

You can close your eyes like a child, place your hands over your ears and pretend that something isn’t real.  Guess what though, those things are still real.  It’s perfectly OK in this messed up, fallen world to say there is no God, or that it isn’t necessarily Jesus.  You probably will even be admired by more and more people and have more friends!  Hollywood people, people in the music industry, politicians, rich and arrogant, with no real morals, are so twisted that they think that if they believe something isn’t real, then it isn’t.  Guess again.  As I will, no matter what side of eternity that we are, all of us will stare into the eyes of the Almighty Maker of the Universe, the one that formed us from the dirt of the ground, and bow our knee to His authority.  As a believer with all my heart that Jesus does exist, and as he claimed to be God, I fear that great day…to stare into His eyes and give an account for the pitiful, sad existence that I lived on this earth as a filthy rag that deserves to be thrown into a pile and lit on fire.  Praise God for his atonement to give all of us the opportunity to be forever in his presence!  Though we could never deserve it, He loves all of us so much he gave up his only Son to die in our place.  Because HE wanted to spend eternity with US!

Such a sad, pathetic world we live in, which would choose an eternity separated from the One that loves us more than anyone else ever could.  We all have a choice.  As C.S. Lewis once said, in the end, there will be two groups of people.  Those who bow down to God and say “Thy will be done” and those who God looks at and says “THY will be done”.
